Capture exactly what you need
Capture an entire window, a selected region, or the foreground window. SliCap can detect slide regions automatically.
SLIDE & SCREEN CAPTURE
SliCap is a Windows capture tool that detects changes in slides and streams, then saves them automatically. Capture, OCR, secure redaction, and video processing all happen locally in one app.
WHAT SLICAP DOES
Capture an entire window, a selected region, or the foreground window. SliCap can detect slide regions automatically.
Continuously monitor a target window and save only when the screen changes beyond your threshold—ideal for slide advances.
Secure redaction discards the original pixels before generating a synthetic texture, removing the underlying information.
Text recognition, face and code detection, video tracking, and Whisper transcription all run on your device.
Filter by feature or action
01 / GETTING STARTED
Install SliCap from Microsoft Store, then follow these three steps to get started.
Select Refresh list, filter by title or executable, then choose a window. SliCap restores your selection the next time it starts.
Open Select region and drag. Press A to auto-select a slide surrounded by a dark background.
C copies and S saves. Select Start auto-save on the main screen to save only when the content changes.
G Select region A Auto-save Esc Back / minimize to tray
02 / CAPTURE
Capture the selected window, drag to refine the region, then copy, save, run OCR, or redact it.
Immediately save the entire target window when no region review is needed.
Use a global shortcut to capture whichever window is currently in front.
Monitor one window and save only when the change exceeds your threshold.
SliCap crops this capture from the full screen, so overlapping windows are included. This setting does not apply to auto-save.
03 / AUTO CAPTURE
SliCap checks the target at regular intervals and saves only when the difference between scaled images exceeds your threshold. You can record slide advances without creating duplicate captures.
SliCap can stay in the system tray, retry after GPU issues, detect unresponsive captures, and recover auto-save after an unexpected exit.
04 / PRIVACY REDACTION
Conventional pixelation and blur retain averages of the source pixels. SliCap’s secure modes fill the region with colors derived from its surroundings, discard the original pixels, and draw a synthetic texture on top.
| Mode | Source pixels | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Pixelate (secure) | Discarded | Default; use to remove information |
| Blur (secure) | Discarded | Secure redaction with softer edges |
| Pixelate (visual only; reversible) | Retained | Visual effect only |
| Blur (visual only; reversible) | Retained | Visual effect only |
It may miss profiles, the backs of heads, shadowed or masked faces, small codes, and vertical text. Always inspect the entire image before publishing it.
05 / VIDEO
SliCap analyzes the full video, tracks detected objects, and interpolates gaps between frames. Drop a video into SliCap or send it from SliStill, then choose video redaction or transcription in SliCap.
Press V to open a file and review detections in the first frame.
Choose faces and/or QR/barcodes, the redaction mode, strength, margin, and face threshold, then start analysis.
Seek through the video to review tracks. Delete a selected track or drag to add a manual one. Move that track on another frame to interpolate between keyframes.
P toggles the original and result. When ready, export <name>_mosaic.mp4.
winget install Gyan.FFmpeg, or place ffmpeg.exe next to SliCap. Face detection uses the bundled onnxruntime.dll.
06 / OCR & TRANSCRIPTION
Press O in region selection. SliCap recognizes Japanese, English, and Chinese, orders the lines, and copies the result to the clipboard.
Press C on the main screen. Whisper transcribes the video audio and saves <video-name>.txt alongside the video.
Small characters and similar shapes may be misrecognized. Zooming into the source before capture can improve accuracy.
07 / GALLERY
Open any image folder—not only the save location. Drop a folder onto the main screen or Gallery, or send a frame folder from SliStill, to show its thumbnails immediately.

09 / TROUBLESHOOTING
Confirm that a target window is selected and that Monitoring appears at the top. Lower the change threshold for subtle changes, or shorten the monitoring interval for rapid slide advances.
The Microsoft Store version includes the components needed for face detection. Profiles, the backs of heads, small faces, and occluded faces may not be detected; add a generous manual region around them.
Check that ffmpeg -version runs successfully. Transcription also requires ggml-*.bin . Opening Transcription with no model present shows a file picker—choose the file you downloaded.
The official version is available only through Microsoft Store. If Windows warns about an executable obtained elsewhere, do not run it; install SliCap from Microsoft Store instead.
The current version makes no external connections, including at startup. OCR, detection, redaction, and transcription are processed on your device.
Settings are stored in %APPDATA%\SliCap\slicap.json; the operation log is slicap.log, and crash records are in panic.log.
Do not record or save another person’s screen or meeting without their consent. Saved images are not encrypted. Before publishing, inspect the result for confidential information and anything auto-detection missed.
